OSA in the GTA > Trias Gallery

The works are constructed mixed-media drawings on Mylar which utilize reclaimed segments of abandoned drawings, image-layering, and expressive mark-making. Initially the works may seem abstract, a flurry of shape, scratch, and color. Reinforcing this are cut lines and the flat space of the images. But closer examination shows recognizable forms: here is a feather, a bowl, a hand. And then the same form surfaces in each image: an owl, maybe, or an angel. These little rounds, looking oddly optimistic in their slashed settings, perch at or perhaps fly out of intersections of salvage. What has happened? The cutting, the harsh marks seem like signs of violence, but when these violently made pieces are brought together, something new and whole appears. It's as if Duchesne¹s shaken her sketchbook and something has tumbled free, something hidden there all along.
